This is what I devoured recently that blew my socks off … maybe not socks – it hasn’t been quite that cold yet – Tenuta di Tavignano Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico Superiore ‘Misco’ 2015 – sounds like a bit of a mouthful, and it is – of goodness. A lively nose of fresh citrus and florals, with some subtle underlying nutty, yeasty notes and fabulous mealy texture from lees work. Anise and olive elements sneak through, with juicy saline edged acidity giving a backbone to age, and making it very moreish to drink.
The current release (2015) just picked up 2017 White of the Year Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri (a pretty impressive accolade). A native of the Marche region in central Italy, this Verdicchio is a great example of what this grape is capable of. We have a small allocation arriving soon – so a lucky few may get hold of some, contact me if you would like to secure a pre-order.
