The Barraida region is bordered by the Atlantic on the west and the Dao region on its east. The fruit for this wine comes from a 60+ yr old bush vine vineyard around 30km from the coast. The soil of the region is characterised by granitic, clay and limestone soils. Baga is known for producing highly tannic, and acidic wines and 2011 was a very good vintage for the region and displays the characteristics of Baga very well. The fruit is soft and has lovely red berry and cassis flavours on the mid palate. There is an attractively rustic feature to this wine, and the fruit level is remarkable for wine with only 13% alcohol. This wine is built to accompany suckling pig which is the speciality of Bairrada.
