Bright cherry and raspberry fruit mark the nose of Torbreck’s 2016 Hillside Vineyard Grenache. The oak signature is modest, with fruit and dried spices (cinnamon, allspice and clove) taking the lead in this full-bodied but delicate, nimble wine. The tannins have a silky feel, lingering on the finish, where they add savoury nuance.

Succulent spiced plum, blueberry and huckleberry flavours are both elegant and powerful, with plenty of concentration and oomph, but set against a silky frame. Details of sage, green tea and violets linger effortlessly on the long, expressive finish. Drink now through 2035
