Leconfield Coonawarra awarded ‘Most Successful Exhibitor’ (2016 Limestone Coast Wine Show)
Great wines are crafted from great vineyards. The family has developed a distinguished international reputation for elegant fine wines. The Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon has long been the flagship of the brand, and Sydney Hamilton’s dream to make the best Australian Cabernet Sauvignon back in 1972 has been kept. These fifth generation winegrowers remain true to Coonawarra.
Sydney Hamilton purchased the unplanted property that was to become Leconfield in 1974, having worked in the family wine business for over 30 years until his retirement in the mid-50s. When he acquired the property and set about planting it, he was 76, and reluctantly bowed to family pressure to sell Leconfield to nephew Richard in 81. Richard has progressively increased the vineyards to their present level, over 75% to cabernet sauvignon, for long the winery’s speciality. – James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2015
It’s not a Syn to want to spray this all over your palate and your mates too. Leconfield might be an unlikely source of top quality, effervescent bubblies, being Cabernet specialist producers, but they clearly know how to get the party started. – Matthew Jukes, UK Wine Writer & Author of ‘The Wine List’
