REGION: Barolo, Piemonte
In Australia, the name Brezza has become synonymous with Barolo, Barbera and Dolcetto from Piemonte. It’s a combination of the hospitality shown by the Brezza family in their Hotel Barolo, in the town of Barolo itself, and the robust, authentic and value wines Enzo Brezza produces in his winery below the family hotel (est 1875) in the historic village of Barolo.
If you taste with Enzo Brezza in his little cantina, you’ll try hand-made wines all from their own plots within the Barolo commune and each from special sites; Barolo like the legendary ‘Cannubi’ the epitome of richness and complexity allied to Barolo’s discipline, ‘Sarmassa’, ripe with raisin, licorice and dried herbs. Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto are made similarly to Barolo, from low yields, with long macerations and time in large oak only.
Brezza remains one of Piemonte’s great undiscovered gems. The estate’s Barolos, made in a rigorously traditional style, show tonnes of vintage and vineyard character in the classic, mid-weight style that is the signature of traditionally made Barolos from the village of Barolo.
